Under 8 Rules

Special Rules are as follow:

  • U8 Boys & Girls will play 5v5
  • No goalkeepers
  • Game Length: four 12-minute quarters; 3-minute breaks in each half
  • Playing times can be less than 12 minutes when discussed by the coaches and referee
  • Size 3 ball
  • Shin guards are required
  • No intentional headers (a free kick will be awarded to the opposition if the ball was intentionally headed)
  • Substitutions are unlimited and can occur at any time
  • While playing, everyone should participate a minimum of 50% of the time
  • Kickoffs, free kicks, throw-ins, goal kicks and corner kicks are used to start or restart play
  • All free kicks are indirect
  • Opponents should be 10 feet away from the ball on all restarts
  • If the ball is kicked out over the side line, the other team is awarded with a throw-in
  • If the ball is kicked out over the end line by the attacking team, a goal kick is awarded
  • If the ball is kicked out over the end line by the defending team, a corner kick is awarded
  • Player has to be on the attacking half to score (a goal kick will be awarded to the opposition if a goal is scored on the defensive half)
  • Arc Rule: Players sitting back and playing defense will not be allowed to stand within the arc while their team is on offense. During play, the player that is playing defense can retreat back within the arc when the other team is moving the ball up the field within reason. No free kick will be given if players go inside the arc at any point. However, the referee may stop the game to tell the coach to move their player out of the arc if the player is consistently inside the arc playing a sweeper/keeper.
  • Goal kicks: While a goal kick is being taken, all players, except the player taking the goal kick, will move outside the arc. Once the player has taken the goal kick and kicked the ball, any player can go inside the arc. Encroachment before the ball is kicked will award another goal kick to be taken, no matter which team has done the foul.
  • No penalty kicks
  • No offside
  • Together, coaches and parents are expected to create and promote a fun and safe environment for the players
